As with the rest of my gear choices, I’m very particular about the water bottle I take out while I’m paddling. I’ve had bottles leak or they just weren’t very functional out on a stand up paddleboard. One bottle I tried would fill up with pressure on a hot day and when I opened it, the thing would blast me in the face. Not cool! Well, actually it was...but that's not the point. That bottle was quickly retired.
I finally settled on the the Contigo Autoseal Cortland Bottle and have been using it for about 3 years now. I liked it so much I bought a second one that sits on a shelf at home just in case my current bottle breaks or I lose it. I picked it because of a couple of features that make it perfect for a paddle trip. Think about these the next time you shop for a water bottle.

I’m sure there are other bottles out there with similar functions but this one works for me. The only problem I’ve run into with this bottle (and it’s not much of a problem) is on a warm sunny day, pressure will build and it will let that pressure go through the vent on the lid. But if you’re bottle is laying sideways, you will lose a bit of your water as that is vented out too. This is tiny problem. Overall this is great bottle for paddling. |
